Lance Spitzner has assembled a toolkit with a precompiled Honeyd binary for Linux that includes many different service script and configurations. A great way to get started with Honeyd on Linux. Thanks to Lance.

A new release candidate honeyd-1.0a-rc2.tar.gz [Sig] is available for download. The next release is going fix bugs that affected the stability of Honeyd and should be more stable than the original 1.0 version.

Niels Provos presented A Virtual Honeypot Framework at USENIX Security and showed how Honeyd can be used to combat worms or to prevent spam.

Mon Apr 26, 2004 8:15 am - Live Statistics

Some live statistics from Honeyd deployments are available now. The displayed stats are still very limited but they present a step towards automatic worm identification using distributed Honeyd installations.

A new version of ScanSSH has been released. Although ScanSSH is primarily designed to detect open proxies and identify server versions, it can also be used to load test virtual routing topologies created by Honeyd.

The Brazilian Honeynet Project has released a Mydoom emulator for Honeyd. It emulates the backdoor installed by Mydoom and can log connections, save uploaded files and logs attempts to use the proxy facility.

Honeyd 0.8 has been released to fix a bug that allowed easy remote detection of Honeyd installations. The new version of Honeyd also drops privileges if allowed by the configuration. [Advisory]

Finally, got a poll working that asks you to vote on which features you think are the most important to have in Honeyd. Soon, I will put a page up that allows you to submit feature suggestions.
